1st Annual Van National Rally: You’re Invited!

GANG! I’m so stupidly excited to share this with you.

I’m coordinating a momentous Class B rally for a club of campervan owners I co-founded a few years ago, the “WinnieBs”. And yes, the club itself is exclusively for Winnebago owners, BUT! This rally the WinnieBs are throwing is for ALL campervans and Class B enthusiasts. Heck, even full size RVs can come if they’d be interested!

The problem is we are limiting attendance to around 100 rigs to keep this thing under control this first year. So if you have any interest after reading this, don’t wait to go register.

So here are the deets:

WHEN: March 21st-24th 2019

WHERE: McDowell Mountain Regional Park, Scottsdale area

SPONSORS: Winnebago, Mercedes, and La Mesa RVs are all pitching in to help with operational costs.

WHAT IS IT?!?

BNR (that’s what we’re calling it for short) will have 3 main components:

1. MODFEST: This was James’ idea and it’s the most exciting part. We’ll be holding mod competitions and touring modded out vans. Vendors that sell after-market modworthy products are coming so you can purchase cool stuff and install them yourselves on the spot. And if you need help with mods of your own, there will be plenty of fellow van enthusiasts around who will be willing to help.

2. VANRELATED SEMINARS: The seminars will be focused on van-tech and vanlife topics. James will be leading a session on “Modding: Take The Leap!”… actually I just made the title up; he hasn’t quite named it yet. But the gist of his session will be psyching yourself up to tackle all those pesky little items on your wish list.

3. OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES: There will be group hiking, road biking, mountain biking. Hoping for a paddling excursion too. We have the Phoenix Astronomical Society holding a Star Party on Friday night… they’re bringing a dozen high-powered telescopes and a bunch of experts to guide us in looking at cool space stuff. I’ve also got it in my head that I want an after-dark headlamp hike one of the nights, so I’m looking to recruit an expert guide. Fingers crossed on that one!

HOPE YOU’LL COME!

We won’t be in a dedicated campground, so it will be dry camping. We have reserved a gorgeous open space area within McDowell Park for the whole event, and that’s where we will camp. The park is one of our favorites in the Phoenix area. We stayed there last December and had a blast riding it up around there. McDowell is well known and loved for its mountain biking trail network, as well as a great hiking destination. The weather in March couldn’t be more perfect. Mid-70’s for highs and mid-50’s for cool sleeping weather.

COSTS AND REGISTERING:

You’ll make two payments:  First, $75 as an event fee that gets paid at the time of online registration, and then another $70 for camping fees that get paid directly to the park upon arrival.

To register, CLICK HERE  and you’ll see the rally info and registration over on the WinnieBs page. And like I said, don’t wait. I have a feeling we will eventually be turning people away.

Oh yes and… I’ll be leading an exercise class or two so don’t forget those yoga mats!

May we come if we don’t yet have a van? Do we register or just come? Been looking at Travato, Revel, now will have to consider Boldt too. We live about 10 miles from the site so no camping for us….

Well, I know rally registration is full.
But you could always try asking the Winnie B’s group directly. If you’re not wanting to park and/or camp, they may be willing to let you in.

      Hi Stefany,

I said hello to you at the Pomona Show (not that you will remember :-). But my hubby and I were deciding on a Leisure Van or a Travato. We just signed up for the rally so Travato it is! My husband keeps postponing our purchase so hopefully this rally will get us going : -) We’ll be bringing our road bikes and also plan to hike. Can’t wait!

Thanks for all you and James do. Heather
