Coming to an RV show near you: Younger Owners

I learned something today.  If you include all RVs – both motorized and towable – sold in the US, more RVs are now owned by those ages 35-to-54 than any other group.  I’d have never believed this, but it’s true, according to a 2011 University of Michigan study.

So what does this mean for us, and in particular, The Fit RV?  Well, the jury is still out on that, but I can tell you what I hope it means.  I hope that the rise of younger RV owners will lead to some changes in the features available in RVs that will accommodate a more active lifestyle!  “Greener” features, more nimble vehicles, attractive price points to get young families into the RV lifestyle… I can think of a lot of things that would appeal to the younger RV buyer.

Stef and I actually fit into this demographic, though we’re hardly a “young family” or first time RV buyer.  Nevertheless, we’re still very much interested in what’s out there for this group.  Why?

????????

Meet Tyler and his family.  Tyler is Stef’s son, and he’s interested in exploring what might be available for them in the RV world.  This excites Stef to no end, because she can’t wait to have the whole clan out for RV adventures.  (They just won’t fit in our Class B!)  Tyler’s family is young, active, and just into their first home – exactly the kind of customer the RV manufacturers should be looking to lock in.

And all of this brings us around to The South Texas RV Supersale.  Stef and I will be at the show, and we’ll be filming a segment where we take Tyler’s requirements and attempt to find the best “first RV” for his family.  We plan to visit several of the dealers who will be represented there, show them Tyler’s wish list, apply a bit of my RV experience, and see what we come up with.

I’m actually kind of excited about this segment.  It will force me to break out of my “B and B+” mindset, and to consider some RVs and features that I normally wouldn’t pay much attention to.  Who knows, maybe it will even give me some ideas for things I want to include in our next coach.

What will we pick out for them?  Heck if I know.  But I know it will be a ton of fun.  If you’re going to be in the area, come to The South Texas RV Supersale and give us your input.  And if you can’t make it to the show, check back here to see what we come up with.

I never thought about the largest age group of RV owners, but that explains a lot about the decor. I’m 31 and so close to completing my remodel of a 27′ class c. I can’t wait to get on the road. While I look forward to more modern designs of RVs, I would prefer older, quiet neighbors. 🙂

We’re with you on the quiet neighbors! 🙂
And I understand about the decor. Updating the look was one of the big motivations for our RV remodel.
Hope your remodel turns out awesome!
