Run a 5k with James – The Turkey Trot Challenge 2017!

Fall’s just about here, and guess what that means! It’s time I start training James to run our annual 5k Turkey Trot…and YOU’RE INVITED TO TRAIN ALONG!

Here’s the sitch.

Every Thanksgiving, James and I run a 5k Turkey Trot. I’m sure you’ve seen them advertised, since they’re popular in cities and towns all over the country. It’s become one of our favorite all-time family traditions. The kids and grandkids join us too…heck, Punky’s just six and she’s already done 4 Turkey Trots! She’s been jogging the whole way the past few years…so proud of her. Since this event is so special to us, we like to share it with our whole RV-loving community.

The Fit RV Turkey Trot 5k

James and I would like to challenge you to participate in a 5k with us this year!

Well, not with us physically, unless of course you find yourself in Utah…which we’d love! But more realistically, we’d like to challenge you to participate in any 5k this Thanksgiving, wherever you find your RV parked. Not sure training for a 5k is for you? Then come read my reasons why I think you should RIGHT HERE.

To get you ready for it, we’ll be posting weekly training plans geared for total newbies or anyone who isn’t currently in jogging condition, so make sure you’re “subscribed” to our newsletter, it’s that box at the top of this post over to the right (or below this post if you’re on a mobile device). Your very first official training session will be on Thursday September 28th, 8 weeks before Thanksgiving. For those 8 weeks, you’ll be doing 4 training sessions a week. James will be doing them, too. Since this is the only time he runs each year, he has to start just like anyone…slowly and safely. And the plans aren’t just for runners! There’ll be intervals, sure, but instead of jogging the intervals, those of you who don’t run can simply power walk through the intervals.

We really hope you’ll join us. Even if this is totally outside the box for you and your family, we challenge you to get a little crazy and try something new. You’ll never know your potential unless you step outside your comfort zone. Here’s your chance.

Expect to see the weekly training plans appear here on the site every weekend starting with Training Plan #1. The workouts begin on Thursday of each week, so you’ll have plenty of time to read them through and get prepared. James has already set his goal for this year’s Turkey Trot: to set a new personal best time (PR) on the course. Goals are a great way to keep motivated…if you plan to participate, let me know your goal too so I can cheer you on!

And that’s it!  Would love to hear your questions and/or thoughts about this…is this something you and yours might be interested in?

Okay just looked over week 1 plans, very doable. Since we don’t live near any Thanksgiving 5k’s though I’m thinking I cold hold my own with the family before we eat, lol.
