An RV Life Your Body Will Love

Did You Know? RVing not only boosts overall wellness, it can add years to your life. How? It gets you moving, keeps you connected with loved ones, encourages you to get outdoors, and brings you joy… all things that science has shown can affect your longevity.

One of the best things about RVing is the freedom to set your own schedule and pace. All the control rests on us: where to go, when to go, what to do when we get there… it’s all up to us! RVing opens up endless possibilities for new experiences that are good for the soul, and when we do it right, good for our bodies, too. Now that we’re rolling into the end of summer, we can take advantage of the abundance of activities and fresh foods this time of year has to offer.

Here are a few suggestions to ‘health up’ your RV adventures and make your next trips your best (and healthiest) trips ever!

Fill your days with physical activities you enjoy.

This one starts with your trip-planning. RVers tend to plan trips by choosing the destination first and then figuring out what to do from there. Instead, do that in reverse! When you choose your activities first and you let that dictate where you go, you’re ensuring the trip will be activity-focused. Feel like hiking in the mountains? Pick the mountains you want to explore, and then set up camp in the vicinity. Want to try your hand at kayaking? Find a lake the rents kayaks and offers guided tours, and point your RV there.  Planning trips based on activities guarantees you’ll get loads of physical activity into your days. Plus, your trip will be much more fun!

Make healthy foods part of the adventure.

Adventures come in all forms on RV trips, and with a little creativity, that can include adventures with what you eat, too.  An RV trip is a great opportunity to explore new recipes and get out of your cooking comfort zone. You can even seek out local farmers markets, and stock up on fresh in-season foods that are guaranteed to taste better simply because you’ll know you only have them because you’re right there at that moment. With a little planning and outside-the-box thinking, eating healthy and delicious foods can be the best part of the trip!

Ditch the tow car: Ride a bike instead!

Part of our culture is to drive everywhere, but we miss out on so much when we do! Not only is biking healthier, it also allows us to move at a slower pace, giving us the opportunity to experience our surroundings and get to know an area in ways we can’t in a car.  And don’t write off bicycling just because it’s been a while since you’ve been in the saddle! E-bikes are a great way to ease back into bicycling, giving you the confidence you need to go the distance. Bicycle rental shops are everywhere, so you don’t even have to bring your own.

Pack a little fitness gear.

Taking the time to pack fitness gear does something psychologically to our motivation levels. It’s along the same lines as that advice you’ve all heard: If you dress in the morning for physical activity, you’re more likely to DO some physical activity. Knowing you’ve got a set of resistance bands or a yoga mat stashed in your RV keeps the idea of getting some exercise in the forefront of your mind. If you’re thinking about it, you’re more likely to do it. And since you’re somewhere new and wonderful in your RV, it quite possibly could be your most scenic workout ever!

Get social: Hit an RV rally!

Research shows that being social will not only boost your health, it can actually add years to your life. RV rallies are a great way to take advantage of that (although do make sure you follow current health and safety guidelines for safe socializing). It’s hard to describe a rally if you’ve never attended one. Rallies are a little like summer camp all over again, only without the camp counselors thwarting your fun! Lots of things happen at rallies, like good food, music, fun seminars and activities. Beyond all the organized events, the best part of any rally is the chance to co-mingle and connect with other fellow RV lovers. You’ll be doing something good for you AND you’ll have a great time, too.

Soothe your Soul: Chase some sunsets.

How many different places can you view sunsets from? For RVers, it’s limitless. Sunset viewing has a powerful calming effect, leaving us feeling inspired, peaceful, and more grounded. Besides its mood-boosting effects, sunset viewing contributes to our physical well-being too; lowering blood pressure, heart rate, and regulating our stress hormones. It’s a hobby made possible by your RV lifestyle that your body (and mind) will love.

SO!

There you have it! A few ways to ensure your RV adventures are both healthy and amazing. May you keep on the road a long, long time.
