I have this memory from just after James and I got married. I bought a shower curtain for the main bathroom in our house while James was on a work trip. By the time he got home, I had it hung and looking fabulous. I didn’t think much of it, and so I hadn’t mentioned it to him beforehand. When he got home from his trip, the shower curtain took him by surprise.
HIM: “Uh Stef? What’s this hanging in the bathroom?”
ME: “Most people call it a shower curtain.”
HIM: “It’s nothing like the old one.”
ME: “Correct. Which was a big selling point.”
HIM: “I don’t know, huge change here. And how come you didn’t tell me?!?”
ME: “I didn’t think you’d have any feelings on it, after all it’s such a small thing…”
HIM: (full on whining now) “How can you call it small?! It’s like, 36 square feet!! That’s… That’s eight percent bigger than our bed!!”
It was one of those pivotal moments where I learned how hard change is on James. I’ve adjusted since, but still like to push him a little every now and then, hoping to increase his ability to be flexible. Which brings me to THIS project:
With James gone on his crazy French cycling adventure, I decided to tackle a little creative DIY project of my own. I like to collect stickers when we’re on the road. But after all these years, I still haven’t put any up on Lance’s windows because I don’t want to have to deal with removing them when we go to sell. So, I bought some peel and stick wallpaper and built a little sticker display board on the side of Lance’s fresh water tank. That space is the first thing you see when you open our slider door, so it’s a perfect spot.
I was TOLD by the internet that peel & stick is easy to deal with. Yeah, no. You’ll see what I mean in the vid.
Anyways, James has no clue I did this project. He HAS heard me talk about it before that I wanted to do it, and seemed neutral on the topic. So, it’ll be interesting to see how well he handles this when I pick him up at the airport in Lance and he sees it for the first time. Heh heh. I’ll turn him into a flexible human yet! (...insert evil laugh…)
xoxo,
Stef
We actually bought sheets of magnets and put our stickers on the magnetic backing so we can remove them later. It also means we can move the magnets around as we collect more.
I love this idea! (Where were you with this before I started my project?) 😉
Lol. We just got our little Metris camper but are looking at class Bs now (we like the Travato K because we have a dog who loves mud). We are collecting brewery stickers from our travels, and I didn’t want them to go directly on the van for the same reasons you listed. I wistfully commented that more places should offer magnets, and my boyfriend searched and found some on Amazon. It’s a bit more labor intensive because we actually stick the stickers to the magnet sheet and cut them out to put them on the van.
I like your idea, too, but the adhesive films and I don’t get along. I usually end up decorating myself.
Stef, I am a brand new RV blogger and working on my second blog post. It’s about remodeling and personalizing your rig. I would like to have links to examples of all levels of remodeling and this would be a fun example of something fun and simple. May I have permission to link to this post? Thanks for your consideration. Julie
Welcome to blogging, Julie! Kind of you to ask permission, and yes! Feel free to share, no problem. Best of luck with your blog and happy travels!
Since no Wusthofs were harmed during this video and nothing resembling an “extra grandkid” crawled out of the tree, all should be well
Well, you know Ted, there is a knife (no clue if it’s a Wusthof or what) that James treasures so much he has put a special cover on it and written a message that says “For James’ use only, curse on anyone else who dares use it”. Thanks for putting it on my radar! NEXT trip James takes I’m soooo taking photos of me using that thing to cut open bags of sand.
Great idea Stef! MJ’s, W-bago, and Sea Otter. Need to find a “Please Remove Shoes” sticker. Was Mel manning the camera?
Oh that’s it! I’m going to Amazon right now for a “Please Remove Shoes” sticker.
I think James needs to get a pair of these:

BWAHAHAHAHA!!! Well now I’ve got Christmas covered this year…hilarious Ted! These have James’ name all over them. LOL!!!
I keep trying to tell everyone “Mel the adventure cat” is quite multi-talented. 😉
Use a straight pin to pop the bubbles and smooth them out
Or! Cover them with stickers!!! 😉 xoxo
