My Favorite 7 Videos From Our First 7 Years

I was shocked the other day when I realized that The Fit RV has been up and running for over 7 years now!  My how time flies!

We’ve managed to pack a lot into those 7 years.  We’ve been RVing in Europe and took in Caravan Salon in Dusseldorf.  I’ve humiliated myself on a bike in the French Alps.  We’ve taken our RVs all over the United States and Canada.  And in a wildly-off-topic adventure, even managed to fit in a Trans-Atlantic cruise.  It’s been a blast, and we wouldn’t trade our experiences for anything.

Oh yeah.  And somewhere along the way we picked up a cat who sometimes kind of acts like a dog.

And throughout it all, we’ve made videos.  Lots and lots of videos.  We’ve gotten more experienced at the video thing over the years, so generally I think the newer ones are better.  But every once in a while I look back over them and find an old one I’d forgotten.  In celebration of our 7 years of being a cul-de-sac on the internet, I decided to go back through and pick out my 7 favorite videos.  If you need a distraction as much as I do these days, you’ll appreciate the diversion.  And if you’re a newer visitor to The Fit RV, you may have missed some of these.

I’ll just tell you right away that most of these videos are weird.  I’ve always had trouble playing things too straight, and the funnier something is to me, the more I like it. So be warned.

Here they are, my favorite videos we’ve ever made (from oldest to newest):

1. The Buckskin Mountain State Park Video Review – January, 2013

We don’t do them much anymore, but before the days of Campendium and AllStays apps, we used to do a fair amount of RV Park and Campground reviews.  This was one of them.  I think it was also the first time I did a completely random “bit” inside one of our videos.  I don’t think Stef quite knew what to make of it when we were recording the voice over, but she earned some serious wife points for just rolling with it.  It just gets weirder from here, so this is a good one to start out with.

2. What We Did at the Grand Canyon – June, 2013

I must have felt like I got away with something with the Buckskin Mountain bit, because I tried it again shortly thereafter.  About a minute-thirty in, this one gets really hard to explain, but you can feel the Monday Night Nostalgia.

3.  An Easy Way to Clean Your RV’s Windshield?? – December, 2014

This is one of those cases where the “bit” took over the “video”.  It started out as a product test, but wound up as a very strange way to play with dead bugs.  I honestly have no explanation for why I had to go THIS FAR to test a product.

4. Winnebago’s RV Shaker Table vs. Stef’s Car Sickness – June, 2015

The first time we ever went to visit Winnebago in Forest City, Iowa, they made the mistake of letting me into their testing lab.  I ruined cell phones, busted snack food with rocks, and tried to wreck our rental car.  But my favorite of these videos was this one, which showed what a good sport Stef is.  More wife points for her.

5. Why Are Towable RVs So Angry? – November, 2015

There was really no point to this video other than me having fun with weird towable names.  Well, that, and I got to really try my hand at editing myself while I was editing a video.  Is that first-person-editing?  Or Meta-editing?  Whatever it is, it’s one of my all-time favorites.

6. A Detailed Review of Winnebago’s Lithium-Powered Travato 59KL! – March, 2018

We’ve thrown ‘bits’ into many of our RV reviews.  Besides amusing myself, I always figured it made them more interesting than just a talking head in an RV.  There was “The Bell Bit“.  Then “The Death of The Bell Bit“.  The “Price is Right Bit“.  And of course the “Random Family-Guy-Style Bits“.  But none of them were as involved as the bit in this video.  It involved multiple locations, additional actors, and prop construction.  You’ll just have to see for yourself… and don’t leave when you see the ending screen!

7.  I Really… REALLY… Don’t Like RV Awnings – May, 2020

So, this is what happens when you’re trapped at home during a pandemic and you have nothing to do but fixate on how much you wish awnings were optional on new RVs while you try out new video editing skills and costumes and your wife doesn’t try to stop you because she’s just so happy that you have something to do that doesn’t involve bugging her.  It’s delightfully strange, and hopefully, it’ll make you think twice before just accepting an option you don’t really want.

And there you have it!

My 7 favorite videos from the past 7 years of The Fit RV.  Does my list match yours?  Did I leave your favorite off?  Sound off in the comments below!

These days I find myself puzzled, that while all the experienced RV’ers are staying put at home base…. there’s a flood of “newbies” currently buying and renting RV’s as a “safe” way to travel during the pandemic. I doubt if the folks living in those small isolated places will appreciate a bunch of “outsiders” escaping the “hot zones”.

On a “Lighter note” i ran across this video that made me think “I wonder if your 1st date went something like this”…….
